Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

What is CBT?

Referred to as “CBT”, cognitive behavioral therapy is a short-term talk and behavioral psychotherapy for the treatment of depressive and anxiety disorders. It educates patients that psychological disorders are often the result of a dysfunction in the brain’s information-processing system. What this means for depressed patients are that their thoughts become negative. Therefore they are likely to experience themselves, the world, and the future through a negative prism; while anxious patients conclude that there is more danger in their lives, loss of control, and that they are inadequate to deal with it.

Schema Therapy

What is Schema Therapy?

Schema therapy tackles problems more complicated than those treated by CBT. These are often chronic psychological symptoms and are related to maladaptive personal beliefs or schemas (such as the belief that one is unlovable or is convinced of eventually being abandoned by others). The purpose of this therapy is to correct maladaptive beliefs and their associated coping strategies. Once treated, the patient’s perspective is healthier, behavior is more adaptive, and an individual’s needs are more likely to be met.
